At times, the pacing choices invoked a chuckle, like when the drunk character assures the village's safety, only for another character to immediately interject with catastrophic news. The choice between weapons becomes evident, especially during prolonged grinding sessions.īeyond the exceptional gameplay, the story proved captivating and engaging. Its damage output, particularly dealing a mere 7 damage in a 10-hit combo, pales in comparison to the hammer's potential 1,000 damage output. However, personally, I found the cord/string-knife less effective compared to, say, the hammer. Within the initial 20 minutes of gameplay, I was captivated by the aerial combos and the unique playstyles associated with each weapon. The standout feature for me undoubtedly lies in the weapons. However, this game conveniently offers nearly everything one needs to know directly within the in-game menus. In the past, I often relied on external sources like the wiki to find specific items or understand their rarity across areas or monster ranks. This MH- like feels refreshing, providing a simpler and faster Monster Hunter experience enriched with fantastic features and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Nevertheless, I'm thoroughly impressed by this iteration. It's worth mentioning that I played this game on my robust 3D work/editing PC, which likely contributed to the smooth performance. In my recent playthrough, I encountered no performance issues, mainly slightly extended loading times, which I attribute to using an HDD drive. I've been a Monster Hunter fan since my days with Freedom Unite on the PSP.
